On the heels of the recently released RIO-47142 comes the new RIO-47300 which is an expanded model that includes two Ethernet ports, more I/O, and screw terminals. The RIO-47300′s Ethernet ports allow an unlimited number of RIOs to be daisy-chained together without an external Ethernet switch. The RIO-47300′s memory allows 400 program lines, 254 variables, 1000 array elements, 6 PID control loops and 5 Ethernet handles. Digital inputs and outputs on the RIO-47300 are increased from 16 to 24 each for a total of 48 optically isolated digital I/O. All the digital outputs are high-power 500mA outputs. The 16 analog inputs and outputs are user-configurable for +/-10V, +/-5V, 0-10V or 0-5V.

The RIO-47300 uses screw terminals for quick and easy prototyping. Dimensions of the RIO-47300 are 10.8” x 4.7” with DIN tray. The RIO-47300 is $495 US in single quantity and $360 US/ea in quantities of 100.
Galil’s RIO Pocket PLC series provides a cost-effective, compact and intelligent solution for programmable I/O control. Standard features of the RIO series include a RISC processor for fast handling of I/O and logic, multitasking, PID process control loops, timers, counters, web interface, email alerts, datalogging, Ethernet and RS232 ports, LED indicators for all digital I/O ports, and an option to interface to position sensors, thermocouples and RTD temperature sensors. Galil Tech Talk: Master Slave Networking with multiple controllers December 7, 2012

For users that need to expand their IO across multiple devices, Galil Ethernet based controllers have a built-in Master/Slave capability. This means that if a system has an Ethernet based DMC motion controller yet needs to add one or more RIO units to expand the IO capability, the DMC controller can be set up to reference the RIO inputs and outputs automatically. Likewise, if a system needs to have multiple RIO Pocket PLC units – any one of those units can be set up as the “Master” controller such that it automatically references the i/o of all of the slave units. The only limits to this are the number of Ethernet handles that the master RIO or DMC unit has available. (Note: use the TH command to see how many handles a particular product has available).
Galil DMC-30000 with RIO PLC
Here are the steps to get a Master/Slave system working with 4 RIO units (1 master and 3 slaves):
Step 1) Connect to each RIO unit with Galil software and assign an IP address. A helpful nomenclature is to use the last 2 digits of the controller serial number as the last field of the IP address so its easy to remember what each units IP address is.
Step 2) Use the following code-generator and input the IP address of each of the slave units:

click “Generate Code”. Then copy/paste the dmc program code that is generated into the Galil software Editor when connected to the “Master” controller. Download and Execute this code (XQ).
Step 3) In the response window, you should see the following text:
SLAVE(s) CONNECTED Set flag=x where x is 1-6
by looking at the code, you can see that the “flag” variable controls different types of i/o requests to the slave units. As a simple test, set flag=1 in the terminal and this will cause output 1 on each of the slave devices to start blinking every 1 second. Use the other included routines as a starting point for controlling the slave analog and digital i/o for your system.

Galil is announcing an addition to the RIO Pocket PLC family. The new RIO-47142 has an internal 10/100Base-T Ethernet switch with two ports which allows an unlimited number of RIOs to be daisy chained together without an external switch. The extra Ethernet port reduces system costs and speeds system set-up when multiple RIOs are required. As you may recall, Galil’s DMC-30000 Pocket Motion Controller Series also provides an internal switch and two Ethernet ports to easily daisy-chain multiple RIO-47142 controllers.

Other features that are standard on the RIO-47142 are expanded memory (400 program lines, 254 variables, 1000 array elements, 6 PID control loops and 5 Ethernet handles), 16 high-power 500mA optically isolated outputs, 16 optically isolated inputs, and 8 each analog inputs and outputs that are user-configurable for +/-10V, +/-5V, 0-10V or 0-5V.
The RIO-47142 is $415 US in single quantity and $305 US/ea in quantities of 100. It is available for shipment in December.

Galil Motion Control, developer of the RIO Pocket PLC series for intelligent and cost-effective I/O handling, now offers their RIO-47202 Pocket PLC that provides screw-terminals and expanded program memory, variables, arrays and programmable PID control loops.

The RIO-47202 provides 400 lines of program memory and 254 symbolic variables which are twice as many as the standard RIO. It also offers six programmable PID loops compared to two. “The RIO-47202 is ideal for customers that require more space for application programs or need to use additional variables or arrays in their programs,” said Lisa Wade, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Galil Motion Control. “It also offers more PID process loops, which is ideal for temperature control. In addition, the screw terminals of the RIO-47202 are convenient for prototyping allowing discrete wires from various I/O devices to connect directly to the RIO.”
The RIO-47202 provides an intelligent, low-cost and compact solution for handling I/O. Each RIO unit contains 8 analog inputs, 16 optically isolated inputs, and 16 optically isolated outputs. Multiple RIO units can be networked together for unlimited I/O expansion. The RIO has a fast, 32-bit processor and non-volatile memory for storing user programs. Features include arithmetic and logical processing, process control loops, data logging, counters and timers.
The RIO allows communication via both Ethernet and RS232. It also supports Modbus TCP/IP as master and slave, a web interface and the ability to send email alerts. It can easily interface to HMIs, PLCs, motion controllers and other I/O devices. The RIO is simple to program with Galil’s intuitive two-letter commands or Ladder Interface Software. The compact RIO-47202 controller measures only 7.19″ x 3.52″ and includes a metal cover and DIN rail mounting tray. It provides screw terminals for easy interface to external devices with discrete wires.
The RIO receives power from Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) or from an external supply of 18V – 36V DC. LED indicators provide a convenient display of all digital inputs and outputs. Available for immediate delivery, the RIO-47202 is $395 US in single quantity and $295 US/ea in quantities of 100.
